Case Study - Optimisation of a Cash Supply Chain (2)

March 23, 2017

Client:   Multi-national company

Project:  Branch and ATM service integration.

Result:  CIT cost saving by integrating routes that service both branches and ATM's.

Problem Statement (Complexity):

  • Branches and ATM's get supplied with cash from external areas (more than 200km away) at high logistic fees.

  • By recycling cash in the determined areas, logistic fees for providing cash can be reduced.

  • Should the customer pay per schedule or a fixed fee for a dedicated vehicle.

The Improvement Project provided the following:

  • Identify areas where cash can be recycled by analysing branch and ATM cash flows.

  • Used a dedicated vehicle to service both branches and ATMs.

Project Outputs:

  • Four areas were identified for Branch and ATM integration.

  • Total saving of R2.5 million.

  • Dedicated vehicles were proposed instead of a pay per service agreement.
